12 years a slave rượt đuổi cận kề hai đối thủ với 9 đề cử. Không thành công ở những hạng mục khác tại Quả cầu vàng vừa qua, song 12 years a slave lại là Phim hay nhất, nên tình thế của cuộc đua tam mã tại Oscar lại càng khó đoán.
